HEADSPACE | MY SUNRISE

Creating meditative in-app content for Headspace’s morning magazine.

It’s an unfortunate fact that the first thing most of us do in the morning is look at our phones. So Headspace created The Wake Up as a daily dose of mindfulness-themed content that could nudge in front of the alerts, emails and news to ease users into their day.

Working with the content team, I generated a suite of format ideas that would help sustain daily editions of The Wake Up. Together, we developed My Sunrise - an original user-sourced series exploring different people’s experiences of sunrise all around the world: Where they catch it, the reflections on life, nature and the universe it elicits, and what gets them up at that time in the morning.

My Sunrise for Headspace: 20 Sunrises in 20 Days

The series began with a compilation of sunrises collected by a filmmaker traveling across the States via its national parks as they to relocated from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Using authentic stories from the Headspace community, it evolved to take in the experiences of trainee pilots, lumberjacks and a host of early morning adventurers from all over the world, becoming one of The Wake Up’s most successful user-generated formats.
